Description

The Bianchi Aquila CV is a dedicated carbon time-trial and triathlon machine developed for cyclists whose priority is aerodynamic efficiency, speed and an aggressive racing position.

This is not simply a conventional road bike with aero bars. The Aquila CV was engineered specifically for racing against the clock, combining highly aerodynamic tube shapes, an integrated cockpit, concealed braking components and Bianchi’s vibration-reducing Countervail technology.

This pre-owned size 57 example is available at Fliston’s for only €2,900, compared with a reference new price of €6,900.

Carbon Frame with Countervail Technology

The Aquila CV is built around a high-modulus monocoque carbon frame incorporating Bianchi Countervail technology.

Countervail is integrated into the carbon lay-up and was developed to reduce vibration while maintaining the stiffness required for efficient power transfer.

For a time-trial or triathlon bike, reducing vibration can be particularly valuable during long efforts where the rider remains in an aggressive aerodynamic position for extended periods.

The Aquila CV frameset also features aerodynamic NACA-inspired tube profiles designed to reduce drag.

Dedicated Time-Trial Geometry

Unlike a conventional endurance or racing road bike, the Aquila CV uses dedicated time-trial geometry.

Its frame was designed to position the rider further forward and lower, helping reduce frontal area and improve aerodynamic efficiency.

The design includes:

Aerodynamic carbon monocoque frame
Countervail vibration-cancelling technology
Full-carbon time-trial fork
Internal cable routing
Integrated aerodynamic cockpit
Concealed braking system
Adjustable rear wheel position

The adjustable rear dropouts allow the rear wheel to sit close to the seat tube, helping reduce turbulence around the rear of the frame.

Shimano Dura-Ace 11-Speed Performance

This particular bike uses a Shimano Dura-Ace-oriented 11-speed configuration.

Dura-Ace represents Shimano’s top-level road racing component family and has been widely used on professional time-trial bikes.

The drivetrain setup on this Fliston’s bike is geared specifically toward speed.

53/39 Crankset

The bike uses a 53/39 crankset, a traditional race-oriented configuration designed for riders capable of maintaining high speeds.

The large 53-tooth outer chainring provides substantial gearing for fast flat courses and descents.

The 39-tooth inner chainring retains some flexibility for gradients while keeping the overall drivetrain focused firmly on performance.

A 53/39 configuration was also used on factory Dura-Ace Aquila CV specifications.

11-21T 11-Speed Cassette

This bike is equipped with an 11-speed 11-21 cassette.

The exceptionally close ratios are particularly suitable for time-trial riding on relatively flat or rolling courses.

Closely spaced gears help the rider make small cadence adjustments without large jumps between sprockets.

Compared with the wide-range cassettes found on modern endurance bikes, an 11-21 cassette is very performance focused and is best suited to strong riders and fast terrain.

Aerodynamic Rim-Brake System

The Aquila CV was designed around integrated rim braking rather than exposed conventional road brake calipers.

The front brake is concealed around the fork and head-tube area, while the rear braking system is positioned to minimise aerodynamic disruption.

This design reflects the Aquila CV’s single-minded focus on reducing drag.

For this Fliston’s unit, the braking system is listed with Dura-Ace controls / rim-brake equipment.

50 mm Carbon Front Wheel

The front wheel is a 50 mm deep-section carbon wheel, providing a useful aerodynamic advantage while retaining more manageable steering characteristics than an extremely deep front rim.

The specification supplied by Fliston appears to refer to a Gurpil GTR 50 mm Carbon front wheel.

Gurpil produces a 50 mm carbon front wheel designed specifically for road rim-brake applications.

Progress 90 mm Rear Wheel

At the rear, this Aquila uses a Progress 90 mm deep-section wheel.

The significantly deeper rear profile complements the aerodynamic character of the bike.

Using a deeper rear wheel than front is common on time-trial and triathlon setups because the rear wheel has less influence on steering stability while still contributing substantially to aerodynamic efficiency.

The resulting 50 mm front / 90 mm rear combination gives this bike a very distinctive competition-oriented setup.

Size 57

This particular bicycle is listed as:

Frame size: 57

Because time-trial fit is considerably more sensitive than conventional road-bike fit, buyers should confirm their measurements and riding position before purchasing.

Saddle height, extension reach and aero-bar positioning can make a significant difference to comfort and aerodynamic performance.
